The Big 12 has its title fight set — and it’s a brand-new matchup.
With Arizona State falling to Arizona on Friday, both BYU and Texas Tech officially clinched berths in the 2025 Edward Jones Big 12 Football Championship, marking the first-ever conference title appearance for both programs.
It’s a monumental moment for two teams who have surged through the 2025 season and now find themselves preparing for a showdown under the bright lights of AT&T Stadium. The championship kicks off at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, December 6, airing nationally on ABC, with a halftime performance by country music star Jon Pardi alongside both schools’ marching bands.
Texas Tech enters the finale with a 10-1 overall record and a 7-1 Big 12 mark, with only a trip to West Virginia remaining. The Red Raiders are in the middle of a historic run, currently ranked No. 5 in the College Football Playoff rankings — the highest CFP ranking in program history.
On the other side, BYU continues to prove it belongs in the Big 12, locking in a title game berth in just its third year in the conference. The Cougars sit at 10-1 overall and 7-1 in league play, with a home finale against UCF still ahead. Ranked No. 11 in this week’s CFP standings, BYU is one of three Big 12 teams inside the top 13.
The matchup promises contrasting styles, high-stakes drama, and the kind of unexpected championship storyline the expanded Big 12 has quickly become known for.
Two programs chasing their first Big 12 crown. Two fan bases starving for a title moment And one December afternoon in Arlington that just became must-see television.
