Seminole Heritage Weekend ended exactly how it should … with fireworks. Florida State shook off the pressure and flattened Wake Forest, 42-7 at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida, to even the season at 4-4 (1-4 ACC) and breathe fresh life into November.
Quarterback Thomas Castellanos ran the show with 271 passing yards and two total touchdowns, jump-starting the party early with a 6-yard rushing score and later finding playmakers all over the yard.
The headline act was Duce Robinson, who turned five catches into 148 yards and a fourth-quarter TD, including a jaw-dropping 65-yard burst to set up points and another one-handed snag through contact that sent Doak into orbit.
Sophomore spark Sam Singleton pounded in a short TD before halftime, and Gavin Sawchuk stacked two red-zone scores after the break to break it open. Micahi Danzy added a 66-yard catch-and-run to set up more points, while tight end Randy Pittman punched in a wildcat TD to cap a four-touchdown avalanche in the second half.
The defense matched the vibe with a wire-to-wire clampdown.
FSU held Wake to just 247 total yards and 19 first downs, flying around behind sacks from Mandrell Desir and James Williams. Corner Earl Little Jr. jumped a pressured throw for a 35-yard interception return to set up more Seminole points, and Ja’Bril Rawls scooped a fumbled snap and rumbled 14 yards the other way to flip field position.
Linebackers Omar Graham Jr. and Blake Nichelson erased QB runs, while safety Jerry Wilson cleaned up drives with sure tackling.
Wake finally cracked the scoreboard late after a backup QB fumble, but by then the band was packing up. From special-teams steadiness to a balanced, explosive offense and a swarming defense, this was the most complete FSU performance of the year – and a perfect Homecoming exhale for Mike Norvell’s group.
Next Up: Florida State heads to Clemson on Nov. 8 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
