FORT WORTH – TCU football looked completely lost for two quarters Saturday afternoon. By the time Halloween was over at Amon G. Carter Stadium, quarterback Jaden Craig had delivered the kind of late-game heroics the Horned Frogs desperately needed.

Craig scored on a 17-yard touchdown run with just over a minute remaining, completing a dramatic comeback as TCU erased a 13-point halftime deficit to defeat Kansas 22-16.

The victory improved the Horned Frogs to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in Big 12 play, snapping the frustration of another close loss the previous week against West Virginia.

And this one was anything but pretty.

TCU’s offense was shut out in the first half, struggling to establish rhythm against a Kansas defense that repeatedly forced punts and stopped the Horned Frogs at the goal line.

The Jayhawks built a 13-0 halftime advantage behind two Martin Connington field goals and a 29-yard touchdown pass from Cole Ballard to Cam Pickett.

Things looked even worse when Kansas threatened to extend its lead early in the third quarter.

That’s when TCU’s defense finally changed the game.

Linebacker Max Carroll helped stop Kansas near the goal line before intercepting Ballard and returning the football 60 yards for a touchdown.

Suddenly, the Horned Frogs had life.

Carroll’s defensive score cut the deficit to 13-7 and ignited a comeback that seemed unlikely during the opening 30 minutes.

Freshman receiver Ace Theus followed with a 28-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter, giving TCU its first lead at 14-13.

But Kansas wasn’t finished.

Connington connected on a 27-yard field goal with less than five minutes remaining, putting the Jayhawks back in front 16-14.

That set the stage for Craig.

The sophomore quarterback directed a 13-play, 84-yard scoring drive, using both his arm and legs to keep the possession alive.

Craig rushed for 37 yards during the march and connected with Ed Small and Jordan Dwyer on critical third-down completions.

Then, with the game hanging in the balance, Craig broke free for the 17-yard touchdown run.

His two-point conversion pass to Dwyer pushed TCU’s advantage to 22-16.

Kansas couldn’t answer.

Craig finished 13-of-29 passing for 141 yards without a touchdown or interception. His biggest contribution came on the ground, where he rushed for a career-high 87 yards and the game-winning score.

Carroll was equally important, recording eight tackles and the interception return that completely shifted momentum.

Still, the victory exposed significant offensive concerns.

TCU managed only 286 total yards compared with Kansas’ 451. The Horned Frogs also struggled to sustain drives, particularly during a first half that featured repeated punts and missed scoring opportunities.

But after losing four games by eight points or fewer this season, TCU finally found a way to finish a close contest.

“We’ve had four opportunities this year to go either win or tie a football game, and at the end, we haven’t been able to get it done,” head coach Sonny Dykes said. “To their credit, we got it done tonight.”

The Horned Frogs have now won six consecutive games against Kansas and remain in position to pursue bowl eligibility.

Next up is a difficult Friday night trip to No. 22 Arizona on November 6, with kickoff scheduled for 9:15 p.m. CT on ESPN.

TCU will need considerably more offensive consistency against the Wildcats.

But for one Saturday, the Horned Frogs finally found something that had repeatedly escaped them this season.

A way to win when the game was on the line.
