The Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers kick off their 2025 NFL regular season on Friday night at Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The game is broadcast exclusively on YouTube. Just 1:25 into the game, the Chiefs might’ve lost one of their offensive weapons for a while. On the game’s third play, wideout Xavier Worthy went down with a shoulder injury, and his return has been ruled out. Kansas City went to the second-year player twice on the first three plays of the game.
The cause of the shoulder injury could’ve been friendly fire.
After being targeted by Patrick Mahomes on a third-down pass, Worthy collided with tight end Travis Kelce while they were both running crossing patterns. Worthy went down hard on his shoulder.
After a short time on the turf, he was able to leave the field under his own power, clutching his shoulder in obvious pain. After being evaluated on the sideline, Worthy made his way to the locker room with a towel over his head while being escorted by training staff.
Worthy was a first-round pick by the Chiefs in 2024 out of Texas and posted 638 yards on 59 catches across 17 games as a rookie with six touchdowns. He added another 104 yards on 20 carries with three more scores.
Kansas City is already short in the wideout room with Rashee Rice serving a six-game suspension to start the season after dealing with legal troubles in Dallas after a traffic accident.
