CeeDee Countdown: Cowboys Star Returns to Practice as Washington Week Kicks Off

Cowboys Nation, breathe a little easier. The cavalry is arriving. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed that CeeDee Lamb is returning to practice as Dallas ramps up for the Washington Commanders in Week 7, and the vibe in Frisco just got brighter.

Lamb has been sidelined since suffering a high ankle sprain seven snaps into the Week 3 matchup against Chicago.

He has been grinding with the rehab group on the side, but Wednesday marks a real step toward game action. Asked what he needs to see from Lamb to green light him for Sunday, Schottenheimer smiled and said, “If he’s breathing, I’m good.” Translation: the All-Pro is trending in the right direction.

Even in limited action, Lamb reminded everyone why he is WR1.

He owns 16 catches for 222 yards, and in the two games he played start to finish he topped 100 yards each time. His return is perfectly timed for a Dallas offense that has been leaning on rhythm throws and quick hitters. With Lamb back in the huddle, the route tree expands, the spacing improves, and the red zone menu gets a lot tastier.

The bonus joy for fans is the chance to see Lamb and George Pickens operating together again. Pickens has been outstanding, stacking 32 receptions for 525 yards through six weeks, third most in the league, and he is tied for the NFL lead with six touchdowns. Pairing his vertical punch with Lamb’s all-field precision gives defenses a pick your poison problem every snap.

Will Lamb be on a snap count in his first game back. Possibly. Any snap count is better than a street clothes cameo. The bottom line is simple. Dallas gets its tone setter back as a divisional test arrives. If practice goes well, expect AT&T Stadium to sound a little louder and the Cowboys offense to look a lot more like itself.
