Sebastian Aho scores twice and Shayne Gostisbehere delivers the overtime winner as Carolina beats Philadelphia 3-2 for its first victory of the season.

RALEIGH – The Carolina Hurricanes finally broke through Saturday night, and they did it with their biggest stars leading the way.

Shayne Gostisbehere scored a power-play goal with 2:09 remaining in overtime, lifting the Hurricanes to a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers and giving Carolina its first win of the 2026-27 season.

The defending Stanley Cup champions improved to 1-1-1 after opening the season with an overtime loss to Florida and a 5-2 defeat against Washington.

Sebastian Aho was at the center of nearly everything Carolina did offensively.

Aho scored just 10 seconds into the game, converting a setup from William Carrier after Andrei Svechnikov helped create the chance behind the Philadelphia net.

The goal was the fastest by a Hurricanes or Hartford Whalers player to begin a road game since Kevin Dineen accomplished the feat in 1990.

Philadelphia answered later in the first period when Owen Tippett tied the game.

The Flyers then moved in front during the second, with Matvei Michkov finishing from in close to give Philadelphia a 2-1 advantage.

Carolina responded in the third.

Aho struck again, this time on the power play at 4:59, tying the game 2-2 and giving him three points on the night.

That set up Gostisbehere’s overtime heroics.

With Carolina on another power play, Jackson Blake found Gostisbehere near the net, and the former Flyer hammered home a one-timer to end it.

Goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov made 16 saves in his first appearance since Dec. 20, while Carolina consistently controlled the puck and forced Philadelphia goalie Joseph Woll to make 37 saves.

Svechnikov finished with two assists, providing another positive sign for a Carolina offense that had struggled to finish chances through its first two games.

The win won’t erase the Hurricanes’ uneven opening week, but it gives them something important heading forward: proof that their offensive core can still take over a close game.

Aho did exactly that Saturday.

And when the game needed one final play, Gostisbehere delivered it.
