Bryce Young Joins Rare Panthers Company With Fourth Captain Nod

Bryce Young has been voted a Panthers captain for the fourth straight season, joining a select group of franchise leaders as Carolina opens 2026.

Bryce Young’s place inside the Carolina Panthers locker room keeps getting stronger.

The Panthers quarterback has been voted a season-long captain for the fourth consecutive year, putting him in rare company in franchise history as Carolina prepares for the 2026 season.

Young was one of five players selected by teammates. He joins running back Chuba Hubbard, defensive tackle Derrick Brown, linebacker Devin Lloyd and long snapper JJ Jansen as Carolina’s permanent captains this season.

The distinction matters.

Only 20 players in Panthers history have been named a season-long captain at least four times. Young now sits in a group that includes some of the biggest names the franchise has produced.

At the top are Luke Kuechly, Cam Newton and Thomas Davis, who each served as captains seven times. Young isn’t there yet, but earning the role every season since entering the league says plenty about how he’s viewed inside the building.

Jansen also earned his fourth captaincy, while Brown was selected for the third time.

Hubbard and Lloyd are first-time captains.

That gives Carolina a balanced leadership group across all three phases — offense, defense and special teams — and Young remains the centerpiece on the offensive side.

For a quarterback, that vote carries extra weight.

Young’s NFL career has already included plenty of scrutiny, but his teammates have consistently backed him as a leader. Being voted captain four straight years isn’t about draft status, contract value or outside expectations. It’s about what players see every day in meetings, practice and the locker room.

That makes this one of the more telling endorsements Young can receive.

The Panthers are still trying to build a team capable of becoming a consistent NFC contender, and leadership will matter as much as talent if Carolina expects to take another step.

Young now has another clear signal that the locker room is still his.

The bigger challenge comes next.

Being named captain is an honor.

For Young and the Panthers, turning that leadership into wins is what ultimately matters.
