Grant Delpit didn’t need a return or a booming leg to tilt a game, just hustle and violence at the football.
The Cleveland Browns’ safety was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week after a standout performance in the Browns’ 31-6 win over the Dolphins, highlighted by two special teams tackles and a forced fumble.

He was the only player in Week 7 to force a fumble on special teams, a momentum-swinging play that helped Cleveland dominate field position and cruise to a statement road victory.
It’s the first Special Teams Player of the Week award of Delpit’s career and a rare honor for a Browns non-kicker/punter.
Over the past decade, only three others from Cleveland have earned it in that category. Jamie Meder (Week 16, 2016), Denzel Ward (Week 5, 2018), and Donovan Peoples-Jones (Week 13, 2022) have all done it. Delpit now joins that short list, underscoring how impactful his third-phase play was in South Florida.
The accolade also extends Delpit’s LSU legacy.
He becomes the fifth former LSU non-kicker/punter to win a Special Teams Player of the Week award, joining Trindon Holliday (twice), Patrick Peterson (twice), Eddie Kennison, and Jarvis Landry. Not bad company for a safety best known for his defensive chops.
Cleveland’s defense has rightly earned headlines, but Delpit’s Week 7 work on coverage units is a reminder that the Browns’ edge often begins before the defense even takes the field. Forced fumbles and solo stops flip scripts, and this week, they flipped an award, too.
Delpit brought the third phase to the forefront and brought home some hardware for it.
