Bengals QB Joe Burrow to Miss 3 Months After Toe Injury Requires Surgery

The Cincinnati Bengals got the worst news possible early Monday morning. News broken by ESPN’s Adam Schefter while live on ‘Get Up’ with Mike Greenberg, the toe injury suffered by quarterback Joe Burrow in the second quarter of Sunday’s win over Jacksonville will require surgery, and Burrow will miss at least three months and possibly the entire 2025 season.

The 2025 season started well enough for the Bengals with a big win over their in-state and division rival Cleveland Browns.

Burrow suffered what was, at the time, described as a lower-leg injury against the Jaguars on Sunday after getting hit in the pocket. Burrow remained down on the field and removed his helmet while in visible pain. After being evaluated by medical personnel, he made his way with help to the blue medical tent on the sideline before being escorted to the locker room. While walking off the field, he appeared to be walking with just a slight limp, but as soon as he made it to the tunnel, he grabbed the medical staff on either side of him and needed help the rest of the way.

Schefter reported Sunday evening that images of the injured toe were sent to a specialist to be evaluated, and on Monday, the recommendation was surgery for Burrow.

“It’s a rollercoaster,” wideout Ja’Marr Chase said, via the team’s website. “Every game is going to be a rollercoaster. Every week from here on out, we’ve got to focus and execute. That’s the only thing. Our quarterback got [knocked] down, we’ve got to [say] ‘Next man up,’ and it’s on from there.”

The Bengals are 2-0 for the first time in seemingly forever, and now they may have to move forward with Jake Browning for a while. Browning went 21-of-32 for 241 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions in the win.
