The Dallas Cowboys have placed cornerback Trevon Diggs on injured reserve with a concussion and knee injury, per team reporter Nick Eatman. Diggs, 26, had been managing a knee issue, then sustained a concussion in a fall at his home ahead of Week 7, triggering the IR move and sending Dallas’ secondary into scramble mode.
A 2020 second-round pick out of Alabama, Diggs quickly became one of the NFL’s most polarizing ball hawks, parlaying his early success into a five-year, $97 million extension signed before the 2024 season (including a $21.25 million signing bonus). He originally entered the league on a four-year, $6.32 million rookie deal.
Through six games in 2025, Diggs logged 18 tackles (one for loss) with no interceptions or pass breakups, numbers that reflect a season disrupted by injury and limited opportunities rather than a diminished reputation that offenses still respect.
Now, his immediate future hinges on clearing concussion protocol and stabilizing the knee, as IR ensures he’ll miss at least four games.

For the Cowboys, the ripple effects are immediate. Brock Hoffman and the offense have steadied the ship up front while the defense continues to hunt front-seven help before the trade deadline. But losing a top outside corner stresses Matt Eberflus’ coverage shell, forcing more snaps on the depth chart and potentially altering pressure packages to protect the back end.
Until Diggs returns, the Cowboys must win with scheme, pass rush, and discipline, and maybe a phone call or two before the deadline.
