The Tampa Bay Rays are adding another experienced voice to their already respected front office, hiring former Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde as a senior advisor in the baseball operations department.
Hyde, 52, was dismissed by Baltimore in May after a 15-28 start to the 2025 season, ending a seven-year tenure that saw him shepherd the Orioles from the depths of a rebuild to back-to-back playoff appearances. His final record in Baltimore was 421-491, highlighted by a 101-win AL East title in 2023 that earned him American League Manager of the Year honors and a 91-win follow-up in 2024.
Now, Hyde will bring that experience to an American League East rival. In his new role with Tampa Bay, he is expected to work across multiple levels of the organization, offering input on both the major league club and the minor league system. For a Rays franchise that has long relied on creativity, player development and smart decision-making over big spending, Hyde’s background in guiding a young core from rebuild to contention fits seamlessly into the organizational philosophy.
For Hyde, the position offers a quick return to the game after his Baltimore exit and a chance to influence a contender from a different angle. For the Rays, it is another low-key but potentially impactful move as they look to maintain their status as one of baseball’s most resourceful and consistently competitive franchises.
