Blood Feud in Austin: Aggies Hunt History, Horns Hunt Chaos in a High-Stakes Lone Star Showdown

by | Nov 27, 2025 | Blog, Dallas, Texas A&M Aggies Daily Blitz, Texas Longhorns Daily Blitz | 0 comments

Texas A&M has waited 14 long years to walk back into Austin with something more than pride on the line. This time, the Aggies bring an undefeated record, a College Football Playoff ticket within reach, and a chance to stomp out Texas’ postseason dreams in the most deliciously petty way possible.

A&M owes Texas payback — a century’s worth, honestly — and Friday night feels like the perfect moment to collect. The Longhorns own the all-time series, broke Aggie hearts in 2011 with a final-second field goal, and last year danced on A&M’s midfield logo in College Station after another rivalry win. Texas has been loud, smug, and very comfortable.

But now the Aggies (11-0, 7-0 SEC, No. 3 CFP) return to Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium as the better team, the higher-ranked team, and the team playing for Atlanta. The Longhorns (8-3, 5-2 SEC, No. 16 CFP) are no longer playoff favorites — they’re spoilers praying for chaos.

Payback? It’s sitting center stage.

Mike Elko knows exactly what this atmosphere will be. “The emotions are going to be high,” he said. “Sometimes you can want something so bad it blinds you.” He’s right — this rivalry is gasoline, and both sides are carrying lit matches.

Aggie edge rusher Cashius Howell, who leads the SEC with 11.5 sacks, is not pretending otherwise. “I’m going into this game with more of a fire lit,” he said. “Not only me, but us as a team.”

Texas would love nothing more than to dent A&M’s perfect season. A Horns win would revive their own CFP chatter and give them a third win against a Top 10 opponent. Steve Sarkisian is trying to keep his team focused: “This is a great rivalry game … that’s where our energy is.”

He knows what’s at stake. So does everyone in the state.

The Quarterback War
Arch Manning finally looks like the superstar Texas hoped for. He accounted for six touchdowns against Arkansas last week and enters with 2,763 yards and 23 scores. Marcel Reed? He’s been a revelation. The Aggies’ breakout star has 2,752 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and Heisman buzz — all while dragging A&M back from a 30-3 hole against South Carolina.

Both quarterbacks can run. Both can extend plays. And both will be hunted relentlessly.

Sack Monsters Everywhere
This is a pass rusher’s dream. A&M’s Howell leads the league. Texas’ Colin Simmons is right behind him with 11 sacks and heating up at the perfect time. Whichever QB stays upright wins. It’s that simple.

Gamebreakers and Weak Links
Texas’ run game — the engine of last year’s victory — has stalled badly, ranking 14th in the SEC. Meanwhile, A&M gets Reuben Owens II back to stabilize its own backfield. There’s danger in the return game too. KC Concepcion and Ryan Niblett are two of the SEC’s best, and kicking to either is flirting with disaster.

Bottom Line
This isn’t just another rivalry. It’s undefeated vs. unhinged. History vs. revenge. SEC dreams vs. Big 12 ghosts. Texas A&M can end Texas’ playoff hopes. Texas can derail A&M’s SEC title bid.

This is a knife fight wrapped in burnt orange and maroon — and on Friday night, the whole country gets to watch who walks out of Austin bleeding.
