The Big 12 heats up this Saturday as the Baylor Bears (2-2) hit the road to face the struggling Oklahoma State Cowboys (1-2) in Stillwater. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2, with both teams looking to get back on track before conference play fully ramps up.
Despite a narrow 27-24 loss to Arizona State last weekend, Baylor enters the matchup with a potent offense led by quarterback Sawyer Robertson, who’s thrown for 1,320 yards, 13 touchdowns, and just three interceptions through four games. His chemistry with top wideout Josh Cameron (309 yards, 3 TDs) has been a highlight, while running back Bryson Washington has quietly become one of the Big 12’s most consistent backs with 415 rushing yards and four scores.

The Bears are putting up 477.3 yards per game, good enough for 21st in the nation, and their 338.5 passing yards per game ranks an impressive 7th overall. However, penalties (62.5 yards per game, 97th in FBS) and a porous run defense (186 rushing yards allowed per game) have made it difficult to close out wins.
On the other side, the Cowboys are mired in an offensive slump. That’s part of what led to the firing of Mike Gundy, long-time coach of the Cowboys. Doug Meacham takes over as interim coach after serving as Gundy’s OC this season. He was with TCU from 2020-2024.
Oklahoma State ranks 134th in scoring offense (just 14 points per game) and 114th in total offense. Freshman quarterback Zane Flores is still settling in, with 417 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions through his early starts. However, there were signs of life in last week’s 19-12 loss to Tulsa, where Flores threw for 214 yards and added a rushing touchdown.

Running back Rodney Fields Jr. led the way with 113 yards on the ground and showed versatility with 39 receiving yards. But red zone inefficiency (OSU ranks 112th in red zone defense, allowing scores on every opponent trip) and an inability to stop the run (211 rush yards allowed per game) continue to plague the Cowboys.
Baylor’s offensive firepower should test an Oklahoma State defense that’s near the bottom of the FBS in several key categories. If the Cowboys can’t get consistent pressure on Robertson or find answers in the secondary, this game could get away from them quickly. Unless Flores and the offense break through in a big way, Baylor has a clear edge.
Expect Baylor to take control early and ride its explosive passing game to a key road win in Big 12 play.
