The UFL is expanding again, adding Colorado Springs and Rhode Island in 2027 before Utah and Oklahoma join as the league grows to 10 teams.
ARLINGTON – The United Football League is expanding to four new markets, pushing professional spring football into Colorado Springs, Rhode Island, Utah and Oklahoma over the next two seasons.
Colorado Springs and Rhode Island will begin UFL play in 2027, while Utah and Oklahoma will follow in 2028, when the league is scheduled to reach 10 teams. The move represents one of the UFL’s most aggressive growth steps since the league’s formation.

Colorado will play at Weidner Field in Colorado Springs, while Rhode Island will call Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket home. Utah will eventually move into America First Field in Sandy, with Oklahoma playing at the new MAPS 4 Multipurpose Stadium in Oklahoma City.
UFL co-owner Mike Repole pointed to growing fan interest and stronger business momentum as key reasons for the expansion.
“There is a real energy around this league right now,” Repole said, adding that the league wanted markets with the right combination of venues, fan bases and local support.
Colorado Springs gets the first major scheduling spotlight with its inaugural home game set for April 11, 2027, on ABC. Rhode Island’s first home game is scheduled for April 2 as part of FOX UFL Friday.
The Colorado Springs franchise will also come with an unusual distinction. Weidner Field sits at approximately 6,035 feet above sea level, more than 750 feet higher than Denver’s Empower Field at Mile High. That would make it the highest-elevation home venue in professional football when the UFL arrives.

The league’s push comes after a 2026 season in which multiple UFL games surpassed one million viewers and the United Bowl sold out. The UFL also continues to market itself as an NFL development pipeline, reporting that 118 former UFL players participated in NFL training camps, with 46 later landing on active rosters or practice squads.
Team names, colors and logos for Colorado and Rhode Island will be revealed in October. Branding for Utah and Oklahoma will come later as those markets prepare for their 2028 debuts.
For the UFL, this isn’t just adding franchises. It’s an attempt to turn spring football from a recurring experiment into a sustainable national league.
