Dak Prescott throws his 249th career touchdown pass, passing Tony Romo to become the Dallas Cowboys’ all-time leader in passing touchdowns.
ARLINGTON: Dak Prescott has officially moved to the top of the Dallas Cowboys record book.
The Cowboys quarterback threw his 249th career touchdown pass Sunday against the Washington Commanders, breaking Tony Romo’s long-standing franchise record of 248 and adding another major milestone to Prescott’s growing Dallas résumé.
The historic touchdown came on a 24-yard connection with CeeDee Lamb, giving Prescott sole possession of first place among every quarterback who has worn the star.
It’s a list loaded with Cowboys royalty.

Romo now sits second with 248 touchdown passes, followed by Hall of Famer Troy Aikman with 165. Danny White is fourth with 155, while Roger Staubach rounds out the top five with 153.
Prescott entered the 2026 season needing only six touchdown passes to catch Romo and wasted little time closing the gap. He threw two scores in the season opener against the New York Giants before continuing the chase against Washington.
Prescott had already become the franchise leader in passing yards before overtaking Romo in touchdowns, making the latest record another reminder of just how much statistical ground he’s covered since arriving as a fourth-round pick in 2016.
Before the season, Prescott made it clear that records weren’t what he wanted his career to be remembered for.
“I want to win the big game,” Prescott said. “That’s my focus, that’s what I care about.”
That tension will continue to define his Cowboys legacy.
Statistically, Prescott is moving into territory occupied by the most recognizable quarterbacks in franchise history. The postseason standard, however, remains much higher in Dallas because Aikman and Staubach combined to win five Super Bowls.
Still, 249 touchdown passes is no minor accomplishment.
Prescott has now thrown more regular-season touchdown passes for the Dallas Cowboys than Romo, Aikman, White, Staubach or anyone else.
And unless something unexpected changes, the gap between Prescott and the rest of the list should only continue to grow.
