Chris Gotterup delivered one of the loudest Sunday statements of the 2026 PGA Tour season, storming from five shots back to win the John Deere Classic with a blistering final-round 62 at TPC Deere Run.

The 26-year-old closed at 20-under par, one shot clear of Max Homa, to grab his third PGA Tour victory of the season and fifth of his career. With the win, Gotterup tied Matt Fitzpatrick for the most victories on Tour in 2026 and continued a scorching 12-month stretch that now has him level with Scottie Scheffler at four wins over the past year.

Not bad for a player who began the day chasing Lucas Glover and Lee Hodges.

Gotterup didn’t waste much time turning the leaderboard into chaos. Even without birdieing the par-5 second hole, he caught fire on the front nine and made the turn at 5-under for the round. He kept attacking on the back side, stayed bogey-free and poured in a 15-foot birdie on No. 17 to reach 20-under.

From there, all he could do was wait.

Gotterup stayed loose on the range alongside his brother, who was filling in as caddie with his regular looper away for the birth of a child. The family moment made the win even sweeter, especially at a tournament that helped launch Gotterup’s PGA Tour rise after he received a sponsor exemption here in 2022 and turned it into his first top-five finish.

Max Homa nearly forced extra holes with a furious late push. Homa birdied four straight holes from Nos. 12 through 15, then added another at the par-5 17th to get within one. But he couldn’t find one more at the last and finished solo second at 19-under.

Ben Kohles had the most painful ending of the day. Standing on the 18th tee tied with Gotterup, Kohles found water with his approach shot and made double bogey, falling into a tie for third at 18-under. It was a brutal finish after an eagle at No. 2 and a strong front nine had put him in control.

Amateur Preston Stout also made noise, finishing tied for 15th at 14-under in just his fourth PGA Tour start. Jordan Spieth, meanwhile, remained stuck in a frustrating stretch, finishing tied for 58th at 7-under after another week damaged by big numbers.

Gotterup now heads to the Scottish Open as the defending champion and No. 6 player in the FedEx Cup standings. After another Sunday charge, he’s no longer just a hot name.

He’s becoming one of the PGA Tour’s most dangerous closers.
