Aaron Rodgers is back in Pittsburgh, but the Steelers still don’t have a deal as talks with his agent continue ahead of OTAs.

Aaron Rodgers is in Pittsburgh, and that alone is enough to keep the Steelers quarterback conversation roaring. But for now, the veteran quarterback’s return to town hasn’t turned into a return to the team.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Rodgers has been in Pittsburgh for multiple days, but he hasn’t met with the Steelers or appeared at the team facility during rookie minicamp. That’s notable because there had been buzz that Rodgers might use the weekend to get around the organization’s newest players and begin building relationships.

Instead, the communication appears to be happening through his agent.

That keeps the focus exactly where it usually lands with veteran quarterbacks: the contract. While there have been repeated suggestions that Rodgers’ next move isn’t driven by money, there still isn’t much else to negotiate in a one-year veteran quarterback deal. Rodgers played last season on a $13.65 million base salary, a bargain compared with the going rate for starting-level quarterbacks.

Now the question is whether the Steelers and Rodgers can find a number that works for both sides. Pittsburgh has interest. Rodgers is nearby. But until the financial piece lines up, this remains a waiting game.

The timing matters, too. OTAs begin May 18, and the Steelers would surely prefer clarity before organized work ramps up. Coach Mike McCarthy addressed the quarterback situation Saturday and suggested that while carrying three quarterbacks is standard, having four would be even better.

That leaves the door wide open.

Rodgers’ presence in Pittsburgh will naturally fuel speculation, but proximity isn’t a signing. Not yet. The Steelers remain in the mix, Rodgers remains available, and the next few days could determine whether this long-running flirtation finally turns into an actual deal.
