Sep. 18—Hempfield blocked a potential game-tying field-goal attempt in the closing seconds Friday night to defeat Exeter 17-14 in a non-league high school football game.

Exeter (2-2) led 14-0 late in the second quarter before Hempfield (2-2) rallied to take a 17-14 lead with 5:12 left on an 8-yard run by Stephen Katch.

After losing the ball on downs near midfield, Exeter got one last chance when it took over at its own 20 with two minutes left and no timeouts. The Eagles moved into position for Mike Moser to attempt a 32-yard field goal, but it was blocked.

Ty Yocum got Exeter out to a 7-0 lead with a 2-yard run in the first quarter. The Eagles made it 14-0 when Eric Nangle scored on a 5-yard run with 57 seconds left in the first half.

Hempfield got a 30-yard field goal from Cannon Biscoe right before the half ended, then connected on a 71-yard pass play in the third quarter to trim Exeter’s lead to 14-9.

Katch put the Black Knights ahead to stay, and Hempfield tacked on a two-point conversion.
