Texas Tech survives Houston 28-26 in a tense Big 12 opener, moving to 3-0 after a game that exposed some issues but also showed the Red Raiders can win when they’re not at their best.

Hammond finished with 257 passing yards and a touchdown, while Kenny Johnson exploded for 113 receiving yards and a score. Texas Tech also got 168 yards on the ground, including touchdowns from Cameron Dickey and J’Koby Williams.

But this wasn’t clean.

Houston quarterback Conner Weigman threw for 282 yards and three touchdowns, and the Cougars finished with 458 total yards while Texas Tech turned the ball over twice.

The Red Raiders still found a way.
