The Minnesota Twins have traded RHP Jose Berrios to the Toronto Blue Jays, per multiple reports.
In the deal, the Jays will send SS/CF Austin Martin and RHP Simeon Woods-Richardson to Minnesota.
Martin is viewed as the No. 16 prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline, while Woods-Richardson is ranked No. 68.
The Yankees, Mets, Tampa Bay Rays, Seattle Mariners, and San Diego Padres were among the other teams interested in Berrios, per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
SNY’s Andy Martino reported on Thursday that the Mets still viewed the Twins’ asking price on Berrios as too high.

Now that the Yankees are close to a deal to acquire first baseman Anthony Rizzo — according to SNY MLB Insider Andy Martino — the focus now turns to what will happen with Luke Voit.
With Rizzo penciled in at first, Voit has become an expendable piece, and Martino has previously reported that a Voit trade could be made if the Yankees landed an infielder, which they now have.

SNY’s Andy Martino is hearing that a Luke Voit trade could be made if the Yankees were to add an impact infielder like Trevor Story.
That doesn’t necessarily mean Voit would head to the Rockies, but rather a separate trade to create space in the infield while clearing cap is potentially on the table.
Earlier on July 29, MLB Network’s Jon Heyman noted the Yanks see room for Story despite already adding OF Joey Gallo.
Could Voit be the odd man out? Gleyber Torres would need to move to second base, which means DJ LeMahieu would push over to first in Voit’s place.

The Yankees have interest in trading for Washington Nationals OF Kyle Schwarber, reports Joel Sherman of The New York Post, who notes there’s a “growing belief” that Schwarber could get traded as early as Thursday.
Schwarber, whose contract contains a mutual team/player option for the 2022 season worth $11 million, is currently on the IL with a hamstring injury.
In addition to the Yankees, the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays are also “believed” to be interested in Schwarber, per Sherman.

Despite being close to acquiring Joey Gallo from the Texas Rangers, the Yankees “see room” to also add Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story, reports Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
Per SNY’s Andy Martino, the Rockies are giving mixed signals regarding whether they’ll even trade Story.
Depending on whom the Yanks would trade to the Rockies in a theoretical deal for Story, acquiring him could put New York over the luxury tax threshold.
Story, who could slot in at shortstop for the Yankees with Gleyber Torres moving to second base, is set to be a free agent after the season.

While the teams haven’t made the move official just yet, the Yankees and Rangers are inching closer on a deal to bring Joey Gallo and reliever Joely Rodriguez to the Yankees, as detailed by SNY MLB Insider Andy Martino.
Jack Curry of the YES Network reported that the Yankees will send four prospects to the Rangers, none of whom are in the Top 10 of the Yankees’ system, according to MLB Pipeline: RHP Glenn Otto, 2B Ezequiel Duran, SS Josh Smith and 2B/OF Trevor Hauver.

According to multiple reports, the Yankees have shown interest in Minnesota Twins outfielder Max Kepler.
Kepler to the Yankees would make sense, as it would give them a left-handed hitting outfielder, an area where they need all the depth they can get.
Kepler has struggled a bit this season, slashing .215/.300/.441 with 13 homers and 39 RBI. But the 28-year-old is just two years removed from a season in which he slashed .252/.336/.519 with 36 home runs and 90 RBI.

Potential Yankees target Starling Marte has been traded from the Miami Marlins to the Oakland Athletics, per multiple reports.
In exchange for Marte, the Marlins — who are covering all of what’s left on Marte’s $12.5 million deal for this season — are getting LHP prospect Jesus Luzardo.
Marte, 32, is slashing .306/.407/.453 in 63 games this season and has been worth 2 DRS in center field.
He is set to become a free agent after the season.

The Yankees inquired about trading for Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer, but were told they’re not on his list, reports Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
As a player with 10-and-5 rights, Scherzer — who is also not willing to be traded to the Mets — can veto a trade to any team.
Meanwhile, the Yanks are “monitoring” the situation with Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story, but do not appear in on Chicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez, per Heyman.
Heyman added that New York might view Nats shortstop Trea Turner (who is under team control through 2022) as “too pricey” when it comes to the prospect haul it would take to trade for him.

The Yankees have made an offer for Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.
It’s unknown exactly what’s been offered, and there’s “no evidence of any traction.” The Rockies haven’t even decided if they’ll trade away Story, but Heyman notes that it’s a good chance they do.
Adding Story would then push Gleyber Torres back to second base and DJ LeMahieu to first. The Yankees would then need to find DH time for Luke Voit (if he can get back to full health), which would likely mean some time in the outfield for Giancarlo Stanton.

According to multiple reports, including from ESPN’s Buster Olney and MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, the Yankees have checked in on Story. SNY MLB insider Andy Martino has previously pointed out Story as a potential Yankees target.
As Feinsand notes, Story is still owed about $7 million this season, which would put the Yankees right around the $210 million luxury tax threshold.
Martino mentions that the Yankees could find a creative way to stay under the luxury tax, but it would likely include either adding enough high-level prospects to make Colorado take on some of Story’s salary, or they would have to trade a big-league contract to the Rockies.
