Five things to know from Saturday’s game
1. Jameson Taillon (5.1 IP, 0 ER, 3 K, 4 H) had his third positive start in a row. Over that span he’s pitched 18.1 innings and allowed only three earned runs.
His outing last night stayed scoreless thanks in part to Chad Green, who relieved Taillon with one out in the sixth with runners on second and third. Green struck out Rafael Devers and got Hunter Renfrow to pop out, ending the threat.
2. After Green pitched 1.2 innings, Zack Britton started the eighth but was pulled with two outs after allowing two baserunners. Lucas Luetge relieved him and allowed one inherited runner to score. It was Britton’s first outing since June 25. Aroldis Chapman pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to end the game.
In all, New York pitching forced the Red Sox into stranding nine runners on with a 1-for-7 mark with RISP.
3. Gleyber Torres got the scoring going for the Yankees with a solo home run, his second in as many nights. 40 percent of his homers this year (5) came this weekend.
4. The game got blown open in the eighth inning when Boston’s bullpen imploded, walking five Yankees and throwing 51 pitches before getting three outs. New York batted around and added four runs — including a two-run home run by Rougned Odor — to make it 7-0.
5. The Yankees, who entered the night dead last in MLB in steals with 20, stole two bases on the night. One was by Greg Allen and the other by Ryan LaMarre, who took over in right field for Trey Amburgey, who left the game with a right hamstring cramp. LaMarre added his first home run as a Yankee in the eighth inning.
