Yankees Gleyber Torres rounds bases HR vs Red Sox

The Yankees let up four runs in the eighth inning, and lost to the Red Sox 7-3 on Saturday night.

Here’s a few takeaways from the game…

Gio Ursehla singled with one out in the fourth inning, and would score on Gleyber Torres‘ two-run homer to left field off of Eduardo Rodriguez to give the Yanks a 2-0 lead. It’s Torres’ third home run of the season and his first in 43 at-bats, dating back to May 21 against the Chicago White Sox.

Jameson Taillon struck out Enrique Hernandez to open the fifth inning, and then got Christian Vasquez to hit a soft ground ball right back to him. Taillon struck out Bobby Dalbec for this third of the night to send the Red Sox down in order.

– Taillon got into some trouble in the sixth, allowing a one out single to Alex Verdugo. Xander Bogaerts then launched a ball to left field that was misplayed by Miguel Andujar, as he ended up with a double to give the Red Sox runners on second and third. Rafael Devers then pulled a fastball through the right side of the infield to score Verdugo and Boagaerts, making it a 2-2 game.

Jonathan Loaisiga replaced Taillon with Devers on first and just one out in the inning. Taillon finished with three earned runs on six hits and three strikeouts over 76 pitches and 5.1 IP. Marwin Gonzalez ripped a double down the line past Chris Gittens at first to score Devers, and give Boston a 3-2 lead.

– After a Giancarlo Stanton strikeout to leadoff the bottom of the sixth inning, Aaron Judge drew a walk and advanced to third on Urshela’s ground-rule double down the right field line. Torres then hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Judge and tying the game at 3-3.

Chad Green came in for Loaisiga in the eighth inning and allowed a leadoff single to Devers. With two outs, Hernandez doubled to left to score Devers as the Red Sox took a 4-3 lead. Christian Vazquez doubled to right field, scoring Hernandez and adding to the lead. Dalbec then launched a two-run home run to left-center field, as the Red Sox took a commanding 7-3 lead.
