Joey Gallo swing Rangers

The Yankees are poised to add power to their lineup, this time from the left side of the plate. SNY MLB Insider Andy Martino reports the Yankees are progressing on a deal to add Texas Rangers slugger Joey Gallo.

The Yankees are a predominantly right-handed lineup, especially with the switch-hitting Aaron Hicks lost for the season (torn sheath in left wrist). Brett Gardner and Rougned Odor provide those at-bats, but Gallo should be fixated right in the middle of the lineup.

He also adds some much-needed outfield help, though he’d likely be transitioning to left field with Aaron Judge in right already.

Gallo has a .223 average on the season, but he gets on base, sporting a .379 mark in that category. He’s also slugging .490 with 25 homers and 55 RBI.

The best part about the deal for the two-time All-Star is his final arbitration year will be for 2022 before becoming a free agent in 2023.

This is a developing story. More to come…
