Looking for a way to learn PGA DFS without jumping in with both feet? We have a perfect solution for you. This year, Yahoo and Yahoo Fantasy are offering a $10,000 freeroll called the PGA “Yahoo Cup.” This contest awards a winner for weekly events and one winner at the end of the season who has the most cumulative points. That winner will receive $1,000. Ultimately, winning the Yahoo Cup comes down to picking the right golfers. Today I will provide my top three value PGA DFS picks based on Yahoo salary, a couple of lineup fill-ins, and two different fantasy golf lineup variations for making your PGA picks this week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Transparency Corner

Right or wrong, it’s important to keep track of how the picks performed the week prior. Here are the players and my corresponding lineup from the Travelers Championship:

Top Three Value Picks for The Rocket Mortgage Classic

Beau Hossler ($20)

With the field being so top-heavy this week, there are a vast array of options at the minimum salary, and few are playing better than the three on this list. For Hossler, it’s the first time he has back-to-back finishes inside the top 20 in his career, and it finally seems like he has figured out his irons. That had been the bane of his existence this year, but he has shown signs of growth in that area, including 1.77 strokes gained on Sunday. Hossler has always been known as a great putter, even through his amateur career, and that seems to be heating up as well.

Hank Lebioda ($20)

Lebioda’s top-five at the Travelers was his first since the 2019 Bermuda Championship. The finish moved him up to 114th in the FedEx Cup standings, so by no means has he secured his spot on tour next year. That should keep him motivated to continue that good form this week.

Kramer Hickok ($20)

A letdown from Hickok seems a bit more likely this week given that he jolted up 70 spots to 69th in the FedEx Cup standings with his finish last week, all but securing his spot on the PGA Tour next year. That can go one of two ways; he could continue his form now that the pressure is off, or maybe his recent performance will prove to be his last time at the top of the leaderboard. At the minimum salary, it is worth paying to find out.

PGA DFS Yahoo Cup Lineup Fill-Ins

  • Bryson DeChambeau ($50)

  • Patrick Reed ($43)

  • Matthew Wolff ($40)

PGA DFS Yahoo Cup Lineup Builds

Aggressive Build

Going with all three of the top values this week provides the ability to stack almost any combo of three golfers in the entire field. The only ones not available to stack would be Bryson DeChambeau, Webb Simpson and Joaquin Niemann. Using this strategy and leaving a little bit of salary on the table creates lineup differentiation.

Conservative Build

For anyone who thinks the top values, or at least Hickock and Lebioda, have reached their pinnacle of short-term form, the play would be to use just one minimum-salary golfer with a few other value golfers in Chez Reavie and Sepp Straka. This allows for a solid two-stack with DeChambeau and whoever else, leaving around $35 left for the last roster spot.
