Washington Wizards big man Marvin Bagley went down with a gruesome knee injury on Monday night in Oklahoma City.
Bagley, in the fourth quarter of their 123-105 loss to the Thunder at the Paycom Center, went crashing down to the court after Thunder forward Isaiah Hartenstein fell directly into his right knee from the side. Bagley’s knee bent in awkwardly as Hartenstein crashed on top of him in the lane, which sent Bagley down to the court in serious pain.
Bagley was eventually helped up and was taken off the court into the locker room. He did not return. Further specifics of his injury are not yet known.
Bagley entered Monday’s game averaging 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game this season, his first full one with the Wizards after he was traded to the franchise by the Detroit Pistons ahead of the deadline last season. The 25-year-old, who was selected with the No. 2 overall pick out of Duke in 2018, is now with his third team in the last four seasons.
Bagley finished with seven points and six rebounds in 16 minutes on Monday night.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 41 points and nine rebounds in the win, which pushed them to 22-5 on the year. He went 14-of-25 from the field, too. Jalen Williams added 17 points and seven rebounds, and Hartenstein finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Jordan Poole led the Wizards with 31 points and seven assists. Carlton Carrington finished with 14 points, and Jonas Valanciunas added 12 points and 15 rebounds. The Wizards have lost five of their last six games, and hold the worst record in the league at 4-23. They lost 16 straight games after going 2-2 to start the season, too.
The Wizards will host the Charlotte Hornets next on Thursday, which will kick off a four-game homestand.
