West Virginia has landed a major commitment for the 2023 class in Beckley Prep (W.Va.) forward James Okonkwo.
Okonkwo, 6-foot-9, 230-pounds, selected the Mountaineers over other offers from Rutgers and Montana State.
The nation’s No. 87th ranked prospect, Okonkwo has excellent size with a 7-2 wingspan. Okonkwo is a skilled big who can finish strong inside and also sink the mid-range and long-range perimeter jumper.
Originally from England, Okonwko received an offer from West Virginia in March and the Mountaineers made him a priority on the recruiting trail led by assistant Ron Everhart as well as head coach Bob Huggins.
Okonkwo is the first commitment for West Virginia in the 2023 class.
