Washington vs. Chargers Inactives: Austin Ekeler in for LA originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

The Los Angeles Chargers‘ offense received an enormous boost on Sunday, as star running back Austin Ekeler is active for the club’s Week 1 matchup against the Washington Football Team.

Ekeler, who had missed practice on both Wednesday and Thursday with a hamstring injury, participated in a limited fashion in Friday’s session. He was initially ruled questionable. Ekeler’s status did not seem to be much in doubt, though, as Chargers head coach Brandon Staley said on Friday that he was “optimistic” Ekeler would play vs. Washington.

For Washington, they’ll be without prized free-agent signing Curtis Samuel after the wideout was placed on short-term Injured Reserve on Friday.

The Burgundy and Gold did receive good news this week, though, as cornerback William Jackson III is healthy and ready to make his Washington debut after missing multiple weeks in camp with a quad injury.

Both Washington and Los Angeles enter their Week 1 contest relatively healthy. Only Samuel and Chargers cornerback Trey Marshall had been ruled out prior to Sunday due to injury.

Quarterback Kyle Allen has been ruled inactive for Washington, meaning it will be Taylor Heinicke as the No. 2 option behind starter Ryan Fitzpatrick. Tight end Sammis Reyes has also been ruled inactive, meaning he will have to wait at least another week to make his NFL debut.
