Uncle and nephew, John and Travis Bonner from Chilliwack, B.C., are splitting an $8,068,948.30 Lotto 6/49 jackpot from the March 9 draw.
John checked their lottery ticket on bclc.com while enjoying his morning coffee and was shocked when he looked at the winning numbers.
“I just kept seeing more and more numbers and then I saw there was a winning ticket in Chilliwack and knew it was real,” John recalled.
“I was at work and John called me on my break… I didn’t believe it,” Travis added. “I was walking around confused all day and I knew things were going to change.”
While some lottery winners keep the news of their big win to themselves for a period of time, that wasn’t the case for the Bonners.
“My brother called me bragging about his recent Slots win that he won at the casino and I said, ‘I can do you one better,’” John said. “He was shocked.”
“I broke down and told my mom,” Travis added. “She was so happy!”
John and Travis plan to celebrate their jackpot win with a big family barbecue and want to buy cars. Additionally, John is looking at a new home and Travis is thinking about early retirement.
“It’s so exciting… new place, new vehicle and some new golf clubs,” John said.
In 2021, B.C. lottery players redeemed more than $99 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49.
