TOKYO — A round-up of Team Singapore athletes in action at the Tokyo Olympics on Friday (30 July):

Quah Ting Wen clocks 26.16sec in 50m free heats

Swimmer Quah Ting Wen clocked 26.16 seconds in her women’s 50m freestyle heat at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, finishing last out of eight swimmers in her race. 

She was placed 40th out of 83 participants in the event, and did not advance to the semi-finals.

No medal races for sailors Ryan Lo, Amanda Ng

Sailor Ryan Lo completed his men’s Laser class competition with 158 points from 10 races, placing him 21st out of 35 participants. He did not advance to Sunday’s medal race.

On Thursday, windsurfer Amanda Ng also completed her women’s RS:X competition with 260 points from 12 races, placing her 26th out of 27 participants. She too did not advance to Saturday’s medal race.

Finally, the women’s 49er FX duo of Kimberly Lim and Cecilia Low have amassed 75 points after nine races, placing them 13th out of 21 teams with three more races to go. The top 10 teams advance to Monday’s medal race.

Joan Poh finishes 28th out of 32 rowers in women’s single sculls

Rower Joan Poh clocked 8min 21.23sec to come in fourth out of eight participants in the women’s single sculls “E” final at the Sea Forest Waterway.

With the result, the 30-year-old nurse finished in 28th place out of 32 rowers in her competition on her Olympic debut. New Zealand’s Emma Twigg clinched the gold medal in an Olympic-best time of 7:13.97 in the “A” final.
