Today’s Olympic rundown: America’s finest competing again Saturday

We’ve got a loaded Saturday at the Olympics coming up.

From Simone Biles and the “Pommel Horse Guy” to Katie Ledecky’s last race of the Games to even a potential Sha’Carri Richardson medal opportunity, here’s what we’re looking forward to most on Saturday in Paris.

Simone Biles, ‘Pommel Horse Guy’ go for gold (10 a.m. ET, NBC)

Both Simone Biles and Stephen Nedoroscik, also known as the “Pommel Horse Guy,” will attempt to win a gold medal on Saturday. Biles will compete in the women’s vault, where she’ll be a significant favorite after her second individual all-around gold medal win earlier this week. Nedoroscik, who only competes in the pommel horse, matched the best score in the event qualifying already. He helped lead the men’s team to a rare medal already, too.

The women’s vault will start at 10:20 a.m. ET, and the men’s pommel horse final is set to start at 11:10 a.m. ET. Both will be shown on NBC.

Team USA men’s hoops back vs. Puerto Rico (11:15 a.m. ET, USA Network)

LeBron James and Team USA are back in action on Saturday in their final group play game, this time against Puerto Rico. A win there would keep the Americans perfect and put them in a great position to defend their gold medal in the knockout stage, which is set to start with quarterfinals matches on Tuesday. Puerto Rico has yet to win a game in the Olympics, and they’ve already been eliminated from contention.

The game is set to start at 11:15 a.m., and can be seen on USA Network.

Sha’Carri Richardson, USA relay team go for gold (1:30 p.m. ET, NBC)

After missing the last Games due to a positive marijuana test, Sha’Carri Richardson now has a shot at an Olympic medal. Richardson will compete in the women’s 100-meter semifinals first, starting just before 2 p.m. ET. If that goes well, the finals for the event are scheduled to start about an hour later.

Richardson, who is the reigning world champion in the event, will attempt to become the first American woman to win gold in the event since Gail Devers did so in 1996.

At 2:55 p.m. ET, the U.S. will enter the 4×400 mixed relay as the heavy favorite to win gold after the team set a world record in the semifinals on Friday while blowing away the rest of the field.

Katie Ledecky searching for 14th medal (3:28 p.m. ET, NBC)

Katie Ledecky will attempt to win a third straight Olympic gold medal in the women’s 800-meter freestyle on Saturday afternoon, which would give her an unprecedented 14th medal. Ledecky is already the most decorated American female Olympian of all time, and she’s won the 800-meter freestyle an incredible six straight times at the World Championships.

Her final Paris race is set to start at 3:28 p.m. ET.

USWNT, Japan set for quarterfinal battle (9 a.m. ET, USA Network)

After cruising through the group stage without any issue, the U.S. women’s soccer will officially start its quest for a gold medal with a quarterfinal matchup against Japan on Saturday. Japan finished second in Group C behind Spain, while the United States went a perfect 3-0 in group play and scored a team-record nine goals.

The contest will start at 9 a.m. ET and be shown on the USA Network.
