Buckle up, Boston Celtics fans — we are about to enter a week of heavy turbulence when it comes to trade rumors, and when it comes to the Celtics — widely seen to be among the league’s most active teams ahead of the Feb. 10 trade deadline — expect a heavy flow of whispers about where players could be headed ahead of the mid-February moratorium on teams trading players in the 2021-22 NBA season.

One such example is new reporting from Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer, who shares some surprising rumors about starting Boston big man Robert Williams III and veteran point guard Marcus Smart, as well as additional confirmation about what we have been hearing about Josh Richardson and Dennis Schroder.

Let’s get into the meat of the article by Fischer.

We have previously reported from multiple sources that the Utah Jazz may have interest in Richardson, and Fischer confirmed Michael Scotto of our sister site’s reporting on the Chicago Bulls having an eye on Schroder.

“Boston continues searching for landing spots for point guard Dennis Schroder and wing Josh Richardson,” writes the B/R reporter.

“A framework of Schroder to Chicago for Troy Brown Jr. and a second-round pick has circulated around the league, while the Jazz have been consistently mentioned as a possible destination for Richardson.”

“Before Patrick Beverley reaches free agency, Minnesota is exploring trade avenues involving its veteran point guard in addition to the Timberwolves’ conversations regarding Malik Beasley,” notes Fischer as well, connecting the T-Wolves to a Celtics player who was linked to them over the offseason.

“Marcus Smart has been mentioned as a recent target for Minnesota who would fill Beverley’s integral role in the Wolves’ starting lineup.”

Most surprising has been Fischer’s reporting that the Raptors may have an interest in a player widely reported to be almost untouchable.

“Robert Williams (III) has also been mentioned of late as a name on Toronto’s list of big-man targets,” explains the B/R author.

No word on the intensity or likelihood of any of the deals discussed above, but if anything can be drawn from these and other reports, it is that the Celtics are indeed keeping quite busy on the phones ahead of Feb. 10.

Whether that translates into large or even small deals remains to be seen, but if Boston has its way under new team president Brad Stevens, the Celtics’ roster will not look the same on the Friday after next.
