Marlins first baseman Jesus Aguilar came out chirping Tuesday, getting into it with Francisco Lindor and then Taijuan Walker as the teams resumed a suspended game at a near-empty Citi Field.
First, when fielding a grounder from Jonathan Villar in the bottom of the second, Aguilar stared down Lindor in the Mets dugout and appeared to respond to something coming from Lindor. Eventually, Aguilar yelled something at Lindor and gave him a mocking thumbs-down, the gesture Lindor and his teammates were directing at Mets fans.
A short time later, pitcher Taijuan Walker and Aguilar got into it about Aguilar taking his time getting into the box. It’s not easy, but newly emboldened to talk trash, maybe the Mets’ opponents will annoy them as much as the hometown fans and media do.
