Texas Tech basketball trailed by seven points at halftime against Baylor in Lubbock Wednesday night.

That’s when, according to senior forward Kevin Obanor, Texas Tech head basketball coach Mark Adams made some things clear to the team.

“He wasn’t having it,” Obanor, who recorded a season-high 23 points and 13 rebounds in the Texas Tech 83-73 win against Baylor, said. “We were down and we were just playing with no energy and just getting punked — not gonna sugarcoat it.

“He called a couple of people out, including myself, and it kind of pushed me to play better. I was kinda of down a little bit. But my teammates, my family, they just helped encourage me. They told me to pick up my head. … Once you get confidence like that, you can truly enjoy playing for a team like that.”

With the win, Texas Tech (20-6, 9-4) increased its winning streak to two games, stayed undefeated at home and swept the Bears (21-5, 9-4) for the first time since 2005.

Baylor and Texas Tech are now tied for second place in the Big 12, a game behind No. 6 Kansas.
