Former University of Tennessee tennis player Tennys Sandgren has been chosen to represent the United States.
He was selected by the United States Tennis Association to compete in the Olympics.
Sandgren defeated Norbert Gombos, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-3, in the first round at Wimbledon on Tuesday.
He was eliminated in the second round at Wimbledon on Thursday, losing in straight sets to fourth-seeded Alexander Zverev, 7-5, 6-2, 6-3.
Sandgren, who starred at Tennessee for two seasons before turning professional in 2011, will also compete in men’s doubles with partner Austin Krajicek during the Olympics.
The duo made an early exit from Wimbledon, losing an opening-round match in straight sets to Alexei Popyrin and Lloyd Harris, 6-4,7-6 (5), on Friday.
