Sudeikis attended the season two premiere of the hit Apple TV+ comedy series, about an underdog English soccer team coached by an American, wearing a shirt bearing the names of England players Jadon (Sancho), Marcus (Rashford), and Bukayo (Saka), who all missed spot kicks in the 3-2 shootout loss to Italy and were targeted on social media with the racial abuse prompting a police investigation and country-wide condemnation.
Sudeikis said working on “Ted Lasso,” which he co-created and writes, strengthened his love of the “beautiful game” and that he was rooting for England in the Euro 2020.
“It came damn close (Euro 2020 final). Yeah, yeah, I mean, you know, there’s always the Olympics, there’s always the World Cup… But I do like is I like to see that football, as we call it over here soccer, is rising in awareness and appreciation here in the States because I think it is a truly, truly, and I didn’t invent this phrase, the beautiful game…”
