Steph jokes ‘vibes’ better after win vs. Lakers than 2020 opener originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

What a difference a year makes.

Last season, the Warriors were pasted by the Brooklyn Nets 125-99 in their season opener. It was a rough start to what would be a season that required Steph Curry to carry a heavy load to ensure Golden State could at least vie for a playoff berth.

Things went a little better Tuesday night as the Warriors opened their season with a 121-114 win over the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center.

While it felt good to start 1-0, Curry knows that victory over the Lakers says little about where the two teams will be later in the season. However, he enjoyed this feeling as opposed to what came after the shellacking in Brooklyn.

“It was interesting playing a team, you know, they are brand new and high upside,” Curry said of the Lakers, who made wholesale roster changes around LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the offseason. “You know the names that they have over there. It’s hard to really measure what the rest of the season is going to look like based on one game. But we focus on what we are doing. I like where we are at. We’re going to build and we should be a much better team come February.

“We’ll see what happens, but it is nice to win the first one. Last year, our first game was not great,” Curry said with a chuckle. “Much better vibes less than a year later.”

While Curry had an off-night shooting (5-for-21), the Warriors’ depth shined through as Jordan Poole (20 points), Nemanja Bjelica (15), Damion Lee (15) and Andre Iguodala (12) helped Golden State overtake the Lakers in the second half.

The NBA season is a long, laborious grind. One game in October can tell you little about what a team will be in March or how their season will play out.

That being said, 1-0 with a win over a title contender feels much better than getting a reality check from Kevin Durant.

The vibes are much better. Of that, there is no doubt.
