Over the course of the last two weeks, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has come under fire for some very questionable play calls on fourth down. Specifically, the decision to throw swing passes on 4th-and-10 and calling a pass play with every route short of the sticks on another.

But according to Tomlin, the play call wasn’t the problem. When asked about his confidence in those failed plays, he said he had a great deal of confidence and put the onus of the failure back on the execution by the players.

It seems like a reach to hope for the outcome to be different when the coaching decision was doomed from the outset. It’s a bad look for Tomlin to not take any responsibility for these calls. Pittsburgh is in a tailspin right now and those failed 4th-down tries really epitomize the way Pittsburgh has handled this entire season.

But I want to ask Steeler Nation. Are you OK with Tomlin passing the buck on those 4th-down calls?
