Jun. 3—ASHEBORO — The High Point-Thomasville HiToms won their Coastal Plain League baseball opener 6-0 against the rival Asheboro Copperheads on Tuesday night at McCrary Park.

Luke Spiva, a former Ledford and Post 87 standout, went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs to lead the HiToms (1-0), who scored two runs in the first inning, one in each of the fourth and sixth, and two in the ninth.

CJ Johnson also went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI, while Chet Stikes, a former Wesleyan Christian and Post 87 standout, had a hit and an RBI along with Von Seibert and Cole Simpson. The HiToms totaled nine hits.

Tyrese Hearst, a former Westchester Country Day and Post 87 standout, got the start on the mound. He pitched three innings, scattering two hits while striking out three and walking none. Will Lancaster won the win in relief.

HIGH POINT CENTRAL

JAMESTOWN — Ragsdale beat High Point Central 10-0 in six innings Tuesday in Metro 4A Conference baseball at Ragsdale. Chad Carpenter went 3 for 4 with two RBIs while Chase Gurney went 3 for 4 with one RBI for the Tigers, who scored six runs in the second inning. Caleb Harvey and Win Scott each had two hits and three RBIs. Nick Horkey struck out 10 in five innings on the mound. Ragsdale improved to 8-3 overall and 7-3 in the conference, while the Bison dropped to 1-10 and 0-10.

SOUTHWEST GUILFORD, DUDLEY

GREENSBORO — Southwest Guilford defeated Dudley 12-1 in six innings Tuesday in Piedmont Triad 3A Conference baseball at Dudley. Luke Johnson went 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Cowboys (11-0 overall, 7-0 conference), who led 7-1 through two innings. Jaxon Rauber and Camden Saylor each added a hit and two RBIs. Easton Morgan won the win on the mound, striking out five while allowing one run on two hits and two walks.

WHEATMORE, JORDAN-MATTHEWS

SILER CITY — Wheatmore beat Jordan-Matthews 4-2 in PAC-7 2A baseball Tuesday at Jordan-Matthews. The Warriors, who scored three runs over the final two innings, improved to 3-6 both overall and in the conference.

GREENSBORO — High Point Central lost 9-0 against Page in Metro 4A Conference girls tennis at Page. The Bison dropped to 1-10 overall and 0-7 in the conference.

SOUTHWEST GUILFORD, WESTERN GUILFORD

GREENSBORO — Southwest Guilford topped Western Guilford 6-3 in Piedmont Triad 3A Conference girls tennis Tuesday at Western Guilford. Audrey Serb, Annie Vo, Nicole Sopala, Tran Nguyen and Maggi Mugi won in singles for the Cowgirls (8-3 overall, 5-1 conference). Avery McCaskill and Lauren Harris won in doubles.

GLENN, RJ REYNOLDS

KERNERSVILLE — Glenn lost 9-0 against RJ Reynolds in Central Piedmont 4A Conference girls tennis Tuesday at Glenn. The Ladycats dropped to 0-9 both overall and in the conference.

MID-PIEDMONT

PLEASANT GARDEN — Southern Guilford captured the boys team championship during Tuesday’s Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference championship at Southeast Guilford.

Southern won the boys team total with 121 points, followed by Williams with 114, Southeast Guilford with 108, Eastern Guilford with 108, Southern Alamance with 105, Asheboro with 29 and Southwestern Randolph with 21.

Southern Alamance won the girls team total with 143 points, followed by Southeast Guilford with 120, Asheboro with 98, Williams with 82, Eastern Guilford with 78, Southern with 40 and Southwestern Randolph with 36.

Winners for the Storm were: Nick Blackston (100m hurdles — 15.88), Justin Copper (300m hurdles — 44.38), Isis Giron (discus — 75-08; shot put — 28-04.25) and James Squires (discus — 102-06).

Making all-conference were also: Janiya Brown (discus), Copper (100m, 200m), Elijah Collins (110m hurdles), Blackston (300m hurdles) and Squires (shot put).
