For weeks, numerous media reports have suggested that the Rockets hold significant interest in G League Ignite guard Jalen Green. The athletic 19-year-old is projected to be chosen in the top four of the 2021 NBA draft, and Houston picks at No. 2 overall in the first round.
Now, there’s new intelligence that the 6-foot-5 guard appears equally intrigued by Houston as his potential NBA destination. Per Sports Illustrated’s Jeremy Woo, Green’s camp is believed to prefer the Rockets as his spot over the Cleveland Cavaliers at No. 3.
Similarly, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony and Adrian Wojnarowski reported Tuesday that Green only plans to work out with two teams before the July 29 draft. Those teams are the Rockets at No. 2, and the Detroit Pistons at No. 1. Those workouts are expected to occur over the coming days.
That doesn’t guarantee that Green will be chosen in the top two, of course. But it does appear to signal confidence from Green’s camp in that outcome, since they don’t seem to be planning for any other scenarios.
