Report: Team USA’s Jerami Grant enters health & safety protocols originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Just a day after news broke that Bradley Beal entered the health and safety protocols at Team USA camp in Las Vegas, fellow Olympic debutant Jerami Grant joined him in protocols, The Athletic’s Shams Charania and Joe Vardon reported Thursday. Grant did not test positive for coronavirus, the report stated, meaning he likely came in close contact with someone who was did.

Team USA departs for Tokyo on Monday, with opening ceremonies beginning Wednesday. Their first game, next Sunday against France, is now just 10 days away. While Grant’s status is unclear, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Team USA is looking to replace Beal.

It was not reported whether or not Beal tested positive for coronavirus, an important distinction between the two situations.

Grant, a 2012 DeMatha grad, is coming off a career season with the Detroit Pistons, betting on himself in free agency and producing a career-high 22.3 points per game in a bigger role. His energy and athleticism made him a versatile reserve player to come off Gregg Popovich’s bench for Team USA.
