The New York Giants are desperate to clear salary cap space by trading cornerback James Bradberry. They are also desperate to get something in return for the veteran, which is why they do not plan to release him.

But things are becoming dire for the Giants. The 2022 NFL draft is just around the corner and the market has not materialized in the way New York had hoped.

As a result, the Giants and general manager Joe Schoen have apparently reevaluated their strategy with Bradberry. And while they are still reluctant to release him, they are now willing to eat some of cornerback’s salary in order to trade him.

From Jordan Raanan of ESPN:

Top cornerback James Bradberry is a candidate to be traded because of an untenable $21.9 million cap hit. Another quality player soon to be gone. The Giants are so desperate to get something in return for the Pro Bowl cornerback they are willing to eat some of his $13.5 million salary in a trade, a league source told ESPN.

How much of Bradberry’s $13.4 million salary the Giants would be willing to eat is unclear, but it may be necessary in order to rekindle his market a bit.

The team would eat $11.28 million in dead space if Bradberry were designated a pre-June 1 release and get nothing in return, so there’s at least some financial wiggle room here if it means receiving a draft pick in return.
