Sep. 2—NORWALK — The Norwalk High School girls soccer team blasted visiting Tiffin Columbian by an 11-0 score Wednesday night in an SBC Lake Division match at Contractors Stadium at the Warren C. Whitney Athletic Complex.
With the win, the Truckers improved to 2-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the SBC Lake. Norwalk extended its unbeaten streak in SBC Lake matches to 33-0-1 since the start of the 2017 season.
Scoring in Wednesday’s match for Norwalk was Nyah Daniels, who found the back of the net five times to push her career total to 122. Hannah Steffanni also netted a hat trick with three goals, while Abby Koenig scored twice and Zuri Immel scored once.
Stefanni also had three assists, while Brooke Amburgy had two assists and Joscey Thomas and Mia Strong each had one.
Norwalk is off until next Wednesday when it hosts Clyde in another league match.
Vermilion 5, Edison 4
MILAN — The Chargers rallied from a 4-2 deficit to tie the match, only for the Sailors to score late for an SBC Bay Division win on Wednesday.
Abigail Hearing scored twice Amelia Chartrant and Morgan Moon each scored once for the Chargers.
Edison is off until next Wednesday when it visits Port Clinton.
BOYS SOCCER
Norwalk 3, Columbian 2
NORWALK — The Norwalk boys soccer team won its second straight match and improved to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the SBC Lake Division with Wednesday’s win over visiting Tiffin Columbian at Contractors Stadium at the Warren C. Whitney Athletic Complex.
Erik Rangle-Negrete scored twice and assisted a third goal scored by Chase Campbell to lead the Truckers to the win.
Rangle-Negrete opened the scoring 13:46 into the first half with an unassisted goal for a 1-0 lead. Campbell then followed just before halftime at the 37:54 mark on an assist from Rangle-Negrete to give the Truckers a 2-0 halftime lead.
Just under 14 minutes into the second half, the Tornadoes cut the deficit to 2-1 with a goal at the 53:55 mark. Rangle-Negrete then answered with a goal at the 64:19 mark off an assist from Spencer Colahan to put Norwalk ahead 3-1.
The Tornadoes then scored just 48 seconds later to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Norwalk’s defense held over the final five minutes for the win.
The Truckers had 25 shots on goal in the victory, while the Tornadoes had just three. Brian Sommers made one save in goal for Norwalk, which hosts Clyde next Wednesday in another league match.

Norwalk competes in NOL reunion meet
BELLEVUE — The Norwalk boys and girls cross country teams participated in a Northern Ohio League reunion quad meet at Bellevue along with Willard and Shelby.
The races were two miles in length. Scoring on the boys side was Shelby with 21 points, followed by Norwalk (66), Willard (72) and Bellevue (78). In the girls race, Norwalk scored 80 points and finished third behind Shelby (31), Bellevue (43) and ahead of Willard (80).
Kyler Kromer won the boys meet in 10:27, while teammate Luke Brown was 14th in 11:37 and Kynan Sparks was 20th in 12:06. Xavier Sweet was 23rd with a time of 12:12, followed by Joe Lyons in 29th in 12:50 and Steven Willer in 30th in 12:56.
Also for the Truckers, Brendon Young was 33rd (13:13), Owen Wagner was 37th (13:28). Ethan Holstein was 42nd in 13:57, followed by Xavier Petersen (43rd, 14:05), Eli Kluding (48th, 14:45) and Ezra Forney (50th, 15:06).
The top five times for the NHS girls included Zurina Immel in third overall in 12:42. Kylie Moser (14:26) was 12th, followed by Serenity Lyons (15:20) in 19th, Shyanne Moser (16:39) in 29th and Ana Henderson (16:45) in 30th.
Addison Daniels was 31st in 16:51 for Norwalk, followed by Sydney Fox (32nd, 16:59), Emma Romell (33rd, 17:38), Alexa Garcia (36th, 18:38), Hailee Smith (39th, 19:18) and Bella Lloyd (40th, 19:23).
“Having the two-mile race was a nice change of pace for the kids,” Norwalk head coach Stephanie Pope said. “The weather was finally cooler, so overall it was a great race. I am very happy with their performances and we are definitely moving in the right direction.”
The Truckers are back in action Saturday at the Ashland Invitational.
VOLLEYBALL
Monroeville 3, Mapleton 0
MONROEVILLE — The Eagles improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the FC with Tuesday’s home sweep over the Mounties.
Monroeville won with scores of 25-5, 25-13 and 25-9.
For the Eagles, Maddie Daniel had 21 kills and 11 digs, Graisyn Yoder was 15 for 15 serving with two aces, eight kills and 10 digs, and Madi Clark was 19 for 20 serving with six aces and 11 assists.
Also for Monroeville, Hannah Lyons had 25 assists, Brooklyn Schaffer had nine kills and two blocks, while Abbi Poths had 13 digs and Lilly White had 10.
Monroeville also won the junior varsity match, 25-5, 25-15.
BOYS GOLF
Huron 160, Edison 185
HURON — The visiting Tigers topped host Edison on Wednesday in an SBC Bay Division match at Thunderbird South golf course.
Matthew Pounds led Edison with a 43, followed by a pair of 45s from Connor Betts and Parker Campbell. Luke Perry added a 52, followed by Corrigan Sanders (54) and Aaron Febo (59).

Hopewell-Loudon 187, Edison 196
HURON — The Chargers fell in an SBC Bay Division match on Monday at Thunderbird South.
Scoring for the Chargers included Ava Grant with a 43 and Madison Butler and Meredith Unger with 49s. Also for Edison, Mallory Meister had a 55, followed by Jamie Teed (59) and Elena McCord (67).
St. Paul 218, Seneca East 219
NORWALK — The Flyers edged visiting Seneca East by a single stroke for a non-league win Wednesday at Eagle Creek golf course.
Hannah Wheeler paced St. Paul with a 51, followed by Zoey Hay with a 55 and both Anna Kaple and Lizzie Belden with 56s.
TENNIS
Ashland 4, Norwalk 1
ASHLAND — The Truckers fell to 4-5 overall with Wednesday’s non-league loss to the host Arrows at Brookside Park.
Winning for Norwalk at third singles was Lauren Brown, who won two close sets over Makayla Spencer, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
At first singles, Ashland’s Audra McBride defeated Megan Miller (6-0, 6-0) and Simone Haynes beat Sidney Sage (6-1, 6-3).
The first doubles tandem of Dezi Hernandez and Brooke Meade fell to the Arrows’ Chloe Ediger and Morgan Kaufman (6-1, 6-4). At second doubles, Kendall Hammersmith and Eva Ott fell in three sets to Alex Swortzentruber and Haye Lefever (4-6, 6-2, 6-3).
