Jun. 5—Adna had nine players score points and the Pirates used effective shooting and solid rebounding to take down visiting Winlock, 69-38, in a 2B Central League regular-season finale Friday night.
Adna junior Kaylin Todd and Winlock junior Addison Hall each finished with game-highs of 19 points. But the deciding factor was the supporting cast.
Pirates’ junior Faith Wellander added 14 points, Summer White scored 11 and Brooklyn Loose had six, while Natalie Loose, Karlee Von Moos, Evalene Thomas and eighth-grader Kendall Humphrey each finished with four.
The Pirates’ lone senior, Ellie Sliva, was honored before the game and finished with three points. Von Moos added a team-high 13 rebounds and Humphrey tallied three steals.
“Kendall was really good off the bench and she did relatively well getting thrown into the fire,” Adna coach Chris Bannish said.
The Pirates jumped out to a 22-7 lead and never looked back, holding the Cardinals to 12 total points in the first half to lead by 24 at the break.
Adna shot 39% from the floor (27-for-69) and hauled in 35 total rebounds to keep the Cardinals at bay.
“It’s the supporting cast,” Bannish said. “If we can keep hitting shots and have balanced scoring, we’ll do well.”
To go with Hall’s 19, Winlock received eight points from Karlie Jones and seven points from Madison Vigre.
“We did a good job locating Hall in our pressure packages, and I thought that was encouraging,” Bannish said.
Adna (7-0) is the No. 2 seed heading into districts and will host C2BL’s No. 9 seed, Stevenson, at 7 p.m. on Monday.
Winlock (5-6) travels to Pacific League’s No. 2 seed, Ilwaco, for a 5:30 p.m. matchup on Monday.
