The final two holes at the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island are incredibly difficult.
At least, they are for everyone except for Harry Higgs.
Higgs ended his Friday at the PGA Championship with a pair of birdies thanks to two deep putts that measured a combined 122 feet.
His first came at the par-3 17th. After just missing the green, Higgs sank a 58-foot birdie putt with authority — marking just the sixth birdie of the day at the hole.
He then followed it up on the par-4 18th. Higgs’ approach shot landed on the front of the green, which set up a 64-foot putt for birdie. He was spot on.
The birdie-birdie finish — which came just after he went bogey-bogey on Nos. 14 and 15 — gave Higgs a 1-under 71 and brought him to 1-under on the week after his even-par 72 on Thursday. He entered the clubhouse just five shots back from the leaders.
The 29-year-old is in his second season on the PGA Tour this year. While he opened the season with a runner-up finish at the Safeway Open — his best career finish on Tour — Higgs has struggled lately. He’s missed seven of his last 10 cuts, including three straight before the PGA Championship, which marks his first ever major championship.
Though he still has a ways to go, Higgs is entering the weekend on the perfect high note.
