Jalen Ramsey is undoubtedly a premier player in the NFL today, widely being viewed as the best cornerback in football. He played at an extremely high level for the Rams last season, earning an All-Pro selection and putting together what he feels was the best season of his career thus far.
Ramsey’s stock is on the rise after shutting down just about every elite receiver he faced last season, but Pro Football Focus still doesn’t have him as the best cornerback in football, nor a top-15 player.
PFF ranked the 50 best players in the NFL right now and Ramsey came in at No. 16 – two spots behind Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander. It’s still a testament to Ramsey’s talent and skill set, but Alexander keeps edging him out as the top corner in the opinions of some.
Ramsey allowed 11 or fewer receiving yards in eight games last season. In three more, he allowed just 22 yards over the game despite facing the opposing offense’s No. 1 receiver more often than not and allowing the rest of the Rams secondary to concentrate on the lesser receiving threats. Ramsey is a game-changer in coverage who makes an entire secondary better because of the knock-on effect of the easier assignments he creates for others.
Ramsey will have another season of difficult matchups this year, facing the likes of DK Metcalf, DeAndre Hopkins, Justin Jefferson, Mike Evans, Allen Robinson and Kenny Golladay, among others. If he locks those wideouts down the way he did last season, he should earn another All-Pro selection and possibly rank even higher on next year’s list of the top 50 players.
PFF hasn’t revealed Nos. 1-10 yet, but Ramsey is currently the only Rams player in the top 50. Aaron Donald, of course, will be in the top 10, potentially at No. 1.
