Mets slugger Pete Alonso is ready to defend his title as MLB Home Run Derby champion on Monday night at Coors Field in Denver. He’ll be taking on Royals C Salvador Perez in the first round.

Round 1 vs. Salvador Perez
Alonso came up to bat first, crushing 13 home runs before taking a timeout with 1:31 left on the clock. He wound up with 25 home runs through regulation time, and hit another 10 in the bonus minute to finish with a total of 35 home runs.
Perez hit 17 home runs through regulation, and finished with 27 at the end of the bonus time.
Alonso broke Josh Hamilton‘s first round record of 28 home runs. He also hit eight home runs over 475 feet, including longs of 512 and 514 feet.
