West Virginia has gone international once again with a commitment from Clearwater Academy (Fla.) defensive end Aric Burton following an official visit to campus.

Burton, 6-foot-5, 210-pounds, popped on the Mountaineers radar in a big way earlier this summer when he competed in a one-day camp and earned a scholarship offer from the program. The long, athletic defensive end possesses an impressive first step and is oozing with upside as he develops.

Burton was born in Germany but spent from first to four grade in the United States before moving back to his native country. From there, he eventually found himself at Clearwater where he will be spending this current season before arriving at West Virginia in the summer.

The versatile pass rusher also added offers from Arizona State, Minnesota, Kansas, Arkansas State and Charlotte, while receiving interest from many others. Most of that is largely due to his performances at camps where he has impressed with his combination of speed and versatility.

“More like a weak-side blitzer and pass rusher,” he said.

Burton returned to Morgantown for an official visit from June 24-26 and that was enough to seal the deal for the international pass rusher.

He becomes the next in what has become a line of players from overseas to commit to the program in recent classes with others being linebacker Jairo Faverus, tight end Victor Wikstrom and defensive end Edward Vesterinen. Each of those are products of the PPI recruits group.

That connection with those other foreign players as well as the trust he had with defensive coordinator Jordan Lesley helped pave the way for his pledge after the in-depth visit.

Burton becomes the ninth overall commitment for West Virginia in the 2022 class and represents the first true pass rusher for the Mountaineers this cycle.

WVSports.com will have more with Burton in the near future.
