The Green Bay Packers are offering Odell Beckham Jr. a veteran minimum contract to join the team, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Earlier Tuesday, it was reported that Beckham had narrowed his choices down to the Packers, Chiefs, and Saints.

A veteran minimum deal would pay Beckham, now his eighth NFL season, around $500,000 for the rest of the 2021 season.

General manager Brian Gutekunst doesn’t have a ton of money to play with, hence the low offer. Currently, the Packers have a little over $4 million in salary-cap space to operate throughout the rest of the year.

Under normal circumstances, a player of Beckham’s stature would demand a bidding war for his services. However, after his well-documented departure from the Cleveland Browns, Beckham appears to be keeping an open mind.

Due to their limited cap space, the Packers are relying on Beckham’s desire to play with Aaron Rodgers and chase a Super Bowl. If he did join forces with Rodgers, Green Bay’s offense would have two highly touted wide receivers causing havoc for opposing defenses.

The Packers now have to wait to hear from Beckham’s camp to see if their offer is enticing enough for him to sign.
