Omari Abor, a 2022 defensive end recruit from Duncanville, Texas, takes in the sights of Ohio Stadium prior to the NCAA football game against the Penn State Nittany Lions in Columbus on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021.

Ohio State has picked up a verbal commitment from defensive end Omari Abor, one of the highest-ranked prospects in the 2022 recruiting class.

Abor announced his decision on Sunday afternoon during the Under Armour All-American game in Orlando, Florida.

A native of Duncanville, Texas, he is the 38th overall prospect in the class and the fourth-highest ranked edge rusher, according to composite rankings compiled by 247Sports.

Abor is set to become the third defensive lineman to join the Buckeyes during the 2022 cycle, following Caden Curry and Kenyatta Jackson who were among the 18 players to sign during the early signing period last month.

The class had been likely to keep growing since coach Ryan Day said he expected to sign 20 or more players through the second signing date in February.

Once Abor signs, he would become the third-highest ranked prospect in the class behind linebacker C.J. Hicks and safety Sonny Styles, who is from nearby Pickerington Central and reclassified.

Abor is seen as a promising pass rusher with speed and size, listed at 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds.

The defensive line recruiting for 2022 has included several late additions.

Curry only announced his commitment on the eve of the early signing period, and Jackson did so in October.
