Jun. 21—WILLMAR — The Willmar Stingers fell 9-3 to the Waterloo Bucks on Sunday evening before 752 fans at Bill Taunton Stadium.

The loss ended a two-game Northwoods League winning streak for the Stingers (10-10).

Waterloo (14-6) leads the Great Plains East Division by 2-1/2 games. Willmar is three games behind Mankato (12-6) and St. Cloud (12-6) in the Great Plains West.

On Sunday, the Bucks scored four times in the second inning to take a 4-0 elad. They added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings before adding three more in the eighth.

Willmar got one run in the fourth and rallied for two in the bottom of the ninth.

Grant Kerry led the Stingers by going 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. He’s a left fielder from Northwest Nazarene University.

Center fielder Carter Howell was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI and William Hamiter went 2-for-4 with a run and a walk for Willmar.

The Stingers are host to the Mankato MoonDogs at 7:05 p.m. Monday at Bill Taunton Stadium. It’s Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Marching Band Night at the park.

Center fielder Jakob Newton went 3-for-5 with a run and a stolen base and William Hamiter, Drey Dirksen and Tanner Tweedt all added two hits apiece to lead the Willmar Stingers past the Waterloo Bucks on Saturday before 912 fans at Bill Taunton Stadium.

Willmar used five pitchers. Reliever Cruz Barrios (1-0) got the win by giving up one earned run in three innings. Barrios is a right-hander from Irvine Valley College.
